Amidst Big Tech, Readers Are Showing Up for Indie Bookshops

On April 25, thousands of readers across the US and Canada headed to their independent bookshop to celebrate Independent Bookstore Day—and their support showed. In fact, we at Libro.fm saw our strongest Independent Bookstore Day in company history!

During a time when indie bookshops need our support more than ever—facing economic instability, predatory behavior from big corporations, and beyond—Indie Bookstore Day is not only a chance to raise awareness, but also to celebrate all that these stores do for our local communities.

Indie Bookshops show up for our neighborhoods in ways no big business ever could—from hosting events to getting involved with local organizations to putting more money back into our immediate economy.

This year, we were excited to supply more than 1,600 bookshops with a Golden Ticket to hide in their store on Bookstore Day. Worth 12 audiobooks, the prize not only draws readers into stores to search for the ticket, but to actually line up before opening!

While Indie Bookstore Day happens once a year, we can celebrate these stores 24/7/365!

Our CEO and Co-Founder Mark put it best: “Independent Bookstore Day is more than just a celebration; it’s a movement. Seeing the record numbers of Golden Tickets in bookstores (and long lines to find them) shows that indies can compete with big tech. Technology can be used to strengthen, rather than replace, the independent shops that are the heart of our culture.”

Thanks for supporting your indie bookshop with Libro.fm, and thank you, booksellers, for all you do!
