Happy Monday! We’re excited to introduce bookseller Anna Garceau of Savoy Bookshop and Cafe in Westerly, Rhode Island.
How did you get into bookselling?
I read about a brand new indie bookstore being built in downtown Westerly.
What do you love most about being a bookseller?
I love hand selling books to customers and then hearing back from them on their next visit about how much they enjoyed my recommendation. It’s my absolute favorite thing. I even correspond with some customers via email and give them suggestions, and they order books for me to ship to them. It’s like I am Frank Doel and my customers are Helene Hanff from 84 Charing Cross Road!
What do you love most about your bookstore?
My coworkers. They are my family and I love them all very much. I feel heard, and respected, and valued, and safe, and appreciated. Working at Savoy is the best job I’ve ever had and I hope to be a career bookseller there forever.

What audiobooks would you recommend or are among your favorites?
On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong narrated by the author, The Amelia Peabody series by Elizabeth Peters, Harry Potter series narrated by Jim Dale, The Lost Queen by Signe Pike, Agnes Browne series by Brendan O’Carroll, and Boomsday by Christopher Buckley.
Where / when do you listen to audiobooks?
In my kitchen while I’m cooking, in the bathtub, outside when I’m working in my garden or beekeeping, driving, or I have it on in the background while I’m sewing. Basically anytime my hands are busy with a relatively quiet task I’m listening to a story!

What do you do when you’re not selling books?
Photography, beekeeping, gardening, making things from scratch (clothing, bath bombs, cooking, homemade dog treats, etc), hiking, going for walks, listening to podcasts, spending time with my husband and my bestie and my sweet dog and cat.
