Meet a Bookseller: BrocheAroe Fabian

We’re proud to introduce you to bookseller BrocheAroe Fabian, owner of partner store River Dog Book Co.!

How did you get into bookselling?

I’ve been in the book industry for 13 years! I started working at a museum library during college and knew that connecting readers with books was going to be my lifelong vocation.

What do you love most about being a bookseller?

How can I pick just one thing?! Overall, I think it’s the ability to explore. I explore other worlds through literature, I explore other people’s lives when talking to them about books, and ultimately I explore the world and the people in it by connecting writers and readers.

What do you love most about your bookstore?

It’s a work-in-progress! After 12 years of learning as much as I could from other people, I now founded my own bookstore and am able to try out all unique ideas and unconventional partnerships and nontraditional business methods I’ve been dreaming out. It’s extremely rewarding to do that, but also relieving to know I’m not letting anyone else down if an idea doesn’t work out.

What are you listening to right now?

The latest Flavia de Luce mystery by Alan Bradley (The Golden Tresses of the Dead)

What audiobooks would you recommend or are among your favorites?

I love it when an author reads their own work. Sarah Vowell, for instance, and David Sedaris are two absolute favorites.

Where / When do you listen to audiobooks?

When I’m driving somewhere, when I’m working out on the bike at home, when I’m traveling.

What is your favorite thing about audiobooks through Libro.fm?

The marketing materials! The ease of the transaction process! How welcoming everything and everyone associated with Libro.fm is!

What do you do when you’re not selling books?

Read books? Ha! I read and write when I’m feeling sedentary, and otherwise I walk my dogs, swim, kayak, bike, hike, climb, paddleboard, and do yoga.
