Happy Meet a Bookseller Monday! We’re proud to introduce Danielle McNally, bookseller at Ben McNally Books in Toronto, ON.
How did you get into bookselling?
My family runs an independent bookstore in Toronto, so I was pretty much born into it.
What do you love most about being a bookseller?
I love talking to readers. I love interacting with a variety of people who have such different views and opinions on things. I find that as long as we have one thing in common (a love of books!), all the differences become bridges to cross, and lead us to better understandings.
What do you love most about your bookstore?
I’ve worked at the same bookstore since I was 16. It is a beautiful bookstore. It is objectively beautiful, but I love it because it is so personally intimate to me. Filled with memories. Every nook and cranny has a history.
What are you listening to right now?
I’m listening to Square Haunting by Francesca Wade and Lean Out by Tara Henley.
What audiobooks would you recommend or are among your favorites?
David Sedaris turned me on to audiobooks, so he’ll always have a special place in my heart.
Where / when do you listen to audiobooks?
I love listening to audiobooks while I’m doing puzzles.
What is your favorite thing about audiobooks through Libro.fm?
I loathe Amazon and am so grateful that I can listen to audiobooks and support my local bookstore at the same time. This is such a uniquely rewarding service.
What do you do when you’re not selling books?
I read. I swim. I walk. I watch films. I do the crossword and hang out with my family.
