Happy Monday! Today, we’re excited to introduce Genavieve Danes, bookseller at Books & Company in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin.
How did you get into bookselling?
I’ve been working in bookstores, publishing offices and libraries since college! I absolutely love being around books and most especially around book people.
What do you love most about being a bookseller?
I love seeing the child-like glee in the eyes of our customers, both big and small, when they find a book that speaks to them. I love making and receiving suggestions on what to read next. Most of all, I love spending my days with other people who love stories.
What do you love most about your bookstore?
I’ve worked in a variety of book industry jobs and Books & Company is by far the best! Our staff are all book people, who are the best kind of people in my opinion, and our owner is committed to being a voice in our community. We strive to not just make a sale, but to make our community stronger and better through stories.
What are you listening to right now?
I am listening to No Country for Old Gnomes, the sequel to Kill the Farm Boy. The author/narrator combination is one made in heaven and when I’m done with this one I’ll dive right into The Princess Beard!
What audiobooks would you recommend or are among your favorites?
Good Omens has a full-cast recording that is amazing. Harry Potter is always a crowd pleaser. And I’m a sucker for any Wil Wheaton/John Scalzi combo!
Where / when do you listen to audiobooks?
EVERYWHERE! As a mom of 4 with 2 part time jobs my days are pretty packed, but if I’m alone, even for a minute, I listen to a page or two. Big chores are made easier with an audiobook and those long commutes are almost pleasurable when I have a good book on the bluetooth.
What is your favorite thing about audiobooks through Libro.fm?
I love that I can support my bookstore, I love that I can read with the voracity that I used to manage pre-kids while still accomplishing necessary tasks, and I could not be more in love with the libro.fm customer service and book review process.
What do you do when you’re not selling books?
I am raising 4 voracious readers, so I spend a lot of time looking for bookmarks and tripping over piles of to-be-read books. I also raise chickens, garden, and sew (all hobbies that can be done while listening to books!).
