Happy Meet a Bookseller Monday! We’re proud to introduce Alyson Jones Turner, bookseller at Source Booksellers in Detroit, Michigan.
How did you get into bookselling?
Our bookstore is a family business.
What do you love most about being a bookseller?
I love getting to read inspiring books and talking to customers about the books.
What do you love most about your bookstore?
I love that the books we highlight in our nonfiction niche have the potential to uplift our community and grow their understanding. We have awesome customers!!!!!
What are you listening to right now?
I am listening to The Fatburn Fix by Catherine Shanahan, M.D.
What audiobooks would you recommend or are among your favorites?
Talking to Strangers by Malcolm Gladwell is a fun and informative audiobook experience. I recommend finding new historical insights by listening to They Were Her Property by Stephanie E. Jones-Rogers. The audiobook allowed me to join a book club that’s reading this book. A good audiobook for this pandemic time is The Places That Scare You by Pema Chödrön, narrated by Joanna Rotte.
Where / when do you listen to audiobooks?
I listen to audiobooks in my car, at home, and while working if we do not have customers in the store.
What is your favorite thing about audiobooks through Libro.fm?
We get to keep the audiobooks and listen to books over time.
What do you do when you’re not selling books?
My family and I like to go outside for kite-flying or camping.
