Meet a Bookseller: Amy McClelland

Happy Meet a Bookseller Monday! We’re proud to introduce bookseller and manager Amy McClelland of Bright Side Bookshop in Flagstaff, Arizona.

How did you get into bookselling?

I fell into it the way you fall into your new favorite book. I moved to Flagstaff over 2 years ago for the Arizona Conservation Corp. After I finished my term, I was working part time at a few places, but when I heard Bright Side needed a new manager I jumped at the chance. The last year has been amazing, I’ve never felt so perfectly matched to my job before.

What do you love most about being a bookseller?

I love our Flagstaff locals who drop in to chat about what ever they are reading right now and ask for any new recommendations I have.

What do you love most about your bookstore?

The owners of our bookstore. Lisa, Ben, and Annette are a huge part of what makes our space so welcoming and unique. None of it would be here be here without them.

What are you listening to right now?

The World That We Knew by Alice Hoffman. It’s fantastic so far, you can always count on Alice Hoffman to add just the right amount of magic into her historical fiction.

What audiobooks would you recommend or are among your favorites?

The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow is one of my favorite books ever. I would recommend listening to it on a cold day with as many fuzzy blankets and cups of tea as you can manage.

For road trips, Esperanza Rising is a book that the whole family can listen to.

Where / when do you listen to audiobooks?

I grew up listening to audiobooks on road trips with my family. We would always go to the library and everyone would pick one to listen to on the drive. Now I listen to audio books while I sew/knit/paint at home! And I still love to listen to them on long road trips with my boyfriend. We get really into murder mysteries together, always trying to solve them first.

What is your favorite thing about audiobooks through Libro.fm?

I love love love that Libro.fm supports local bookstores! (Especially Bright Side, because it is the best)

What do you do when you’re not selling books?

I go on a lot of adventures–hiking, or traveling to new places. I am super into crafts, and usually have at least 3 art projects in the works at any given time. And I love to snuggle my rabbit, Neville Longears.
