Happy Monday! We’re proud to introduce bookseller Dakota Gates of Bank Square Books in Mystic, Connecticut.
How did you get into bookselling?
I got into bookselling through a friend who works at Bank Square Books. It seemed like a good fit in my life after graduation and has been a great experience.
What do you love most about being a bookseller?
The customers that come in looking for recommendations! I get exposed to more books and genres that I haven’t properly explored yet. It’s sometimes hard for me to recommend books outside my normal reading/listening range, but a challenge is never something to shy away from.
What do you love most about your bookstore?
My fellow booksellers! We all work together, help each other, and try to dish out the best small business service to our customers that we can.
What are you listening to right now?
I am currently listening to The Witch Elm by Tana French. I am right at the part where major tensions are high between Toby and Leon and I can feel a big reveal is about to happen.
What audiobooks would you recommend or are among your favorites?
I have been recommending The Witch Elm by Tana French as it is my most current audio book. I have also recommended: The Color Purple by Alice Walker to a few people as well.
Where / when do you listen to audiobooks?
I listen to audio books while commuting, especially long commutes! It makes the drive more enjoyable. I also listen while knitting, it keeps me engaged so I can finish Christmas/birthday gifts in time!
What is your favorite thing about audiobooks through Libro.fm?
I love that I can support a small business through Libro.fm. I’d much rather my money go to a small business like ours than Amazon/Audible.
What do you do when you’re not selling books?
As mentioned in an earlier question I knit (mostly socks). I also spend time exercising our very active rottweiler puppy with trips to the dog park and dog-friendly hiking trails.
