Meet a Bookseller: Kate Larson

Happy Monday! We’re excited to introduce you to bookseller Kate Larson of Bank Square Books in Mystic, Connecticut.

How did you get into bookselling?

I started in 2012 at Books A Million (and got in trouble for special ordering titles to handsell) and eventually moved over to Liberty Bay Books, an independent bookstore in Poulsbo, Washington. I haven’t looked back since.

What do you love most about being a bookseller?

I love being able to talk about books with customers all day, and especially love when someone’s eyes light up when we find their perfect next book.

What do you love most about your bookstore?

Bank Square Books is located in a unique little town called Mystic, Connecticut. The sheer variety of people we get to interact with on a daily basis is fascinating!

What are you listening to right now?

Currently I am finishing up Brazen and the Beast by Sarah MacLean for one of our new romance book clubs. On deck: Akata Warrior by Nnedi Okorafor.

What audiobooks would you recommend or are among your favorites?

Definitely have to include Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor, Information Doesn’t Want to be Free by Cory Doctorow, and of course Circe by Madeline Miller.

Where / when do you listen to audiobooks?

I listen to audiobooks mostly on my daily commute, but also when I clean the house. It makes it so much more enjoyable!

What is your favorite thing about audiobooks through Libro.fm?

My favorite thing about Libro.fm is the friendly and responsive team! I also love the respect for the customers, as seen in the lack of DRM encryption on the books people purchase, making it truly their own.

What do you do when you’re not selling books?

I love board games and play some computer games with friends.
