Meet a Bookseller: Lany Holcomb

Happy Monday! We’re excited to introduce bookseller Lany Holcomb of Bookmarks in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

How did you get into bookselling?

I’ve always been a passionate reader, and when the Bookmarks nonprofit was hiring for their brick and mortar I couldn’t pass up the opportunity!

What do you love most about being a bookseller?

The genuine love of reading and writing that we get to interact with on a daily basis. Whether it be customers, publisher reps, or authors themselves, there’s always such a wonderful sense of community around the book world, even in a store!

What do you love most about your bookstore?

Our nonprofit mission! Through this we’re able to have our Festival of Books and Authors, put more up-to-date titles in our local schools, as well as host a large number of authors at our store!

What are you listening to right now?

Little Weirds by Jenny Slate

What audiobooks would you recommend or are among your favorites?

I adored the way Tangerine by Christine Mangan was done, it made it so much more interesting with the book having not one but two untrustworthy narrators! I also loved Shining in the Dark and Circe!

Where / when do you listen to audiobooks?

Predominantly in the car or just milling about in my home!

What is your favorite thing about audiobooks through Libro.fm?

The honest interaction between Libro and its users as well as their support to independent bookstores. I love telling people about Libro and how it helps to support Bookmarks.

What do you do when you’re not selling books?

I am an artist, a musician, and a writer!
