Meet a Bookseller: Nancy Baenen

Happy Meet a Bookseller Monday! We’re proud to introduce bookseller Nancy Baenen of Arcadia Books in Spring Green, Wisconsin.

How did you get into bookselling?

I’d been the Housing Director at a University of Wisconsin campus, working mainly with 18-20 year olds. I now like to say I prefer to work in a place where Drama is a section and not a daily occurrence.

What do you love most about being a bookseller?

Putting the right book in a reader’s hands is the best part of my job. Bonus points if it gets one of our younger customers to become an avid reader.

What do you love most about your bookstore?

Our great mix of customers and how much people love coming here.

What are you listening to right now?

The Seven or Eight Deaths of Stella Fortuna

What audiobooks would you recommend or are among your favorites?

Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders and Bossypants by Tina Fey.

Where / When do you listen to audiobooks?

I love to listen when I’m home cleaning or doing all of the closing tasks at the store.

What is your favorite thing about audiobooks through Libro.fm?

It’s the easiest thing ever to peruse titles, purchase, download, listen. The most time consuming part is deciding which title to listen to first.

What do you do when you’re not selling books?

I read books! I also spend a lot of time sitting on bleachers at sporting events and dance recitals, cheering on my three kids. Sadly, I spend way too much time doing laundry.
