Meet a Bookseller: Robin Templin

Happy Meet a Bookseller Monday! We’re proud to introduce Robin Templin, a bookseller at Watermark Books in Wichita, Kansas.

How did you get into bookselling?

They couldn’t keep me out. I stalked the owner till she had to hire me or get a restraining order. This is my happy little retirement gig. I pinch my self daily. I sell books. (And yes, I also smell them.)

What do you love most about being a bookseller?

Interacting with readers. When a customer comes in and we realize we read the same books, two things happen. They go home with a pile of new treasures, and we each feel like we met a new old friend.

What do you love most about your bookstore?

Watermark is a Wichita icon. Every day I hear from people who say they simply must stop by Watermark whenever they are in town. That’s an honor!

What are you listening to right now?

Bill Bryson’s The Body. OMG. I am a walking talking miracle of nature and winner of the cosmic lottery. I could have been mackerel.

What audiobooks would you recommend or are among your favorites?

This Tender Land by William Kent Krueger has my heart today.

Where / when do you listen to audiobooks?

Anywhere. Anytime. Doing dishes. Driving. Via earbuds when my husband is watching football or politics. Outside on a nice day. Inside on a blech day. Too late at night. Too early in the morning.

What is your favorite thing about audiobooks through Libro.fm?

I’m such a wacko reader, it allows me to double dip. I can read one physical book, and enjoy listening to another when I’m driving to and from work.

I also love the spoken word. They get under your skin and you live with them for a while. When a Libro book has multiple narrators, for various characters, it’s amazing! Like The Reckless Oath We Made by Bryn Greenwood. Be still my heart!

What do you do when you’re not selling books?

You need to be more specific. When would that be?
