Meet a Bookseller: Sarah Bagby

It’s Meet a Bookseller Monday, and today we’re proud to introduce Sarah Bagby, bookseller at Watermark Books & Cafe in Wichita, Kansas.

How did you get into bookselling?

Like most booksellers, I grew up in a house full of books. Since all my family read, books were the glue that bound us. And still do. After getting a part time job I found I had a knack for it and enjoyed it….and here I am, after 30 some years.

What do you love most about being a bookseller?

Matching books with readers, creating buzz and a market for debut authors, and making it all work for the bottom line of the business.

What do you love most about your bookstore?

I love the location in a historic neighborhood, the customers, the café, and the community we’ve created.

What are you listening to right now?

Talking to Strangers by Malcolm Gladwell

What audiobooks would you recommend or are among your favorites?

Heaven, My Home by Attica Locke, read by J.D. Jackson, and Save Me the Plums by Ruth Reichl.

Where / when do you listen to audiobooks?

In the car, when I’m cooking or doing a home project.

What is your favorite thing about audiobooks through Libro.fm?

Ease of app and downloads. Selection. And having an alternative to other audio providers that can support independent bookstores.

What do you do when you’re not selling books?

Read, of course, do fitness (mostly spin classes), hang out with friends, and just stay home with my husband.
