Happy Monday! We’re excited to introduce bookstore owner and bookseller Suzanne Lucey of Page 158 Books in Wake Forest, North Carolina.
How did you get into bookselling?
Luck and happenstance. I have been a lifelong reader. It literally saved my life after struggling growing up with a schizophrenic mother. I had a little local cable tv show up in Boston and when I moved to NC I missed doing that. So I talked to the town and started an interview with the author series. One day I left the local bookstore and said, “I would love to own a bookstore.” The owner emailed me 3 days later asking if I wanted to take over. 6 weeks later we opened. I love it.
What do you love most about being a bookseller?
The people that come in the store. They are smart, compassionate and fun. The authors are too! The whole community in the book industry is so great and helpful!
What do you love most about your bookstore?
My co-workers.
What are you listening to right now?
What audiobooks would you recommend or are among your favorites?
Where / when do you listen to audiobooks?
With my family in the car.
What is your favorite thing about audiobooks through Libro.fm?
I love the recommendations.
What do you do when you’re not selling books?
Cook, clean, socialize
Suzanne Lucey’s love for books, readers, and writers sparkles all around her–a literary aura! She is the most welcoming of booksellers. How could anyone leave Page 158 Books empty-handed?
I completely agree with your thoughts, Ms. Poole-Carter. Sue’s enthusiasm is infectious, and she is an amazing partner with our public library system as well! So happy to call her ours. 🙂
