Meet a Bookseller: Bri Esposito

Happy Meet a Bookseller Monday! We’re proud to introduce Bri Esposito, events coordinator at Carmichael’s Bookstore in Louisville, Kentucky.

How did you get into bookselling?

I applied for the events coordinator position at my local bookstore, interviewed, and then turned the job down because it wasn’t the right fit for me at the time. When the position opened up again a year and a half later, they called me out of the blue, and I was in a much better position to take the job. I’m so happy it worked out – I feel like my dream job fell into my lap!

What do you love most about being a bookseller?

I adore being surrounded by books all day! I really love strategizing ways to get authors that will serve a wide variety of interests to my city and then reaching all corners of Louisville to bring people out who have maybe never been to an author event before, or weren’t aware of just how many go on in our city.

What do you love most about your bookstore?

It’s one big family – literally. We’ve been around for 41 years and recently the original owner’s daughter and niece took over. Working in a place that has been around and beloved for that long makes me feel like I’m really a part of my adopted city.

What are you listening to right now?

The Gone Dead by Chanelle Benz.

What audiobooks would you recommend or are among your favorites?

One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest read by John C. Riley was kind of amazing. I also loved Educated by Tara Westover and Why Women Have Better Sex Under Socialism by Kristen R. Ghodsee.

Where / when do you listen to audiobooks?

In the car and at the gym. I try to save a book specifically for the gym because it incentivizes long, boring runs on the treadmill.

What is your favorite thing about audiobooks through Libro.fm?

I love that it gives people a way to enjoy the convenience of audiobooks (it’s not always convenient or safe to be reading the paper copy) while still supporting a local business. It gives our bookstore a way to offer something that our customers want.

What do you do when you’re not selling books?

I’m reading books! I also like to hang out with my dogs and ride my motorcycle.
