We’re excited to introduce you to Sarah Ferguson, owner and bookseller at Rapport in Gillette, WY.
If you missed it, Saturday, April 27th was Independent Bookstore Day all across America. Here in Seattle, where I live, independent bookstores across the area participate in Seattle Independent Bookstore Day by issuing their customers the Passport Challenge. What is it? Stop at your favorite independent bookstore across Puget Sound, get your passport stamped, maybe buy some books, meet the book seller, get back in the car, and do it TWENTY MORE TIMES!
Laurie Frankel, author of This Is How It Always Is and Goodbye for Now, filled us in on her inspiration, the process of her work being optioned for film/tv, and (of course) her favorite audiobooks and what she loves about independent bookstores.
There are more people than we can possibly thank here, but we want to do our best to highlight some Independent Bookstore Day heroes that made 2019 the best Independent Bookstore Day yet!!
This Saturday, April 27, is Independent Bookstore Day, a celebration of the local booksellers and businesses that are the heart and soul of our communities.

Online shopping, and one large online retailer in particular, has taken over the retail world, but there is one category of brick-and-mortar business that is thriving…independent bookstores. From 2009 to 2018, they grew by almost 50%.
This year, on Saturday, November 24th, nestled in between two of the ugliest days of the year—Black Friday and Cyber Monday—is a beautiful little day called Indies First. Have you heard of it? It’s a celebration of independent bookstores. It stands in complete defiance of everything that Black Friday and Cyber Monday have come to represent. It’s the day where you get to travel down to your local bookstore and peruse the shelves, shoulder-to-shoulder with other members of your community.
You just supported your local, independent bookstore! And that means so much more than you probably realize.
More than 40 independent bookstores participated in our first ever, Summer Listening Challenge.
